Library Supervisor Volunteer - Summer Seasonal (May-September)- ON GROUNDS

REPORTS TO: Association Museums Director and Historian

POSITION SUMMARY: The library is the source of books, games and puzzles for guests and staff to borrow or use while staying at YMCA of the Rockies. It is also the venue for programs including author talks, current events discussions, family programs and story times. The Summer Library Volunteer Supervisor is a 5 month position starting on or before May 10 and ending in September, with some moderate assistance via phone and email in the winter. Specific schedule will be determined annually based on the needs of the Library. The Library Supervisor assists library users while they are in the library and with the process of borrowing materials, as well as promotes the YMCA of the Rockies mission through friendly conversation with library users. The Library Supervisor provides daily operational oversight to the Library. The Assistant works independently in the library under the supervision of the Museums Director and Historian.


  • Knowledge of current adult and children's book trends.
  • Ability to supervise staff, create schedules and plan programs
  • Must be able to communicate with the YMCA of the Rockies periodically throughout the year, with most hours in the summer
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and basic computer/email
  • Be able to lift 20 lbs.


  • Provides general summer operations oversight to the library.
  • Makes recommendations for hiring volunteers
  • Supervises and schedules volunteers according to Library operations
  • Arrange, manage and set up programs for guests and staff
  • Coordinate efforts with fall/winter/spring Library Volunteer supervisor to assure smooth transition between seasons
  • Greet and assist guests of all ages in finding books, magazines and other forms of media.
  • Open and close the Library
  • Arrange, manage and set-up for programs held in the library.
  • Use checkout/in system, topical book categories and the shelving system.
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized facility
  • Misc. duties including but not limited to dusting, vacuuming, trash collecting, bathroom cleaning and maintenance duties, watering plants and window cleaning and light shoveling.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE: Your days off for the week will be on a rotating schedule. You will be expected to serve a minimum of 28 hours per week and no more than 35 hours per week. Regardless of the time of year please expect to work most weekends and holidays, this includes working Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, etc.


As a volunteer there is no compensation. Volunteer perks include:

We have a zero tolerance policy for alcohol or drugs on property; in addition, no drug use is tolerated (including marijuana) during your employment with us whether on- or off-duty.

If you are a rehire and have worked at YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center, Snow Mountain Ranch, or Camp Chief Ouray at any time during the past three years, references are not required.
