Position Summary: The Gap Year Program Supervisor is responsible for developing, instructing and delivering EXPLORE and EMPOWER programs curriculum and activities, helping to resolve conflict within programs as well as any other gap year programs that are developed, interviewing gap year program participants, managing housing issues for gap year program participants and assisting in daily HR operations.

 

Essential Functions / Requirements:

  1. Two years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  2. Two years of education, training, and/or experience related to outdoor or backcountry facilitation.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to fluently read, write and speak English.
  4. Good interpersonal skills, leadership skills and teaching/training skills.
  5. Basic knowledge of computers for maintaining employee records and providing general correspondence. Knowledge of Microsoft software (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  6. Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
  7. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule as hours may vary and may include weekends, evenings and holidays.
  8. Responsibly handle confidential information.
  9. Ability to move throughout the outdoors over terrain, either by walking or by other means.
  10. Ability to foster participant development and growth.
  11. Experience creating and overseeing staff schedule.
  12. Have administrative and scheduling skills.
  13. Ability to comprehensively interview potential Gap program participants.
  14. Uphold the YMCA of the Rockies Mission, policies and programs.
  15. Must possess a valid, USA state issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
  16. Promote a cooperative, positive and problem-solving atmosphere at all times.
  17. Support the Association safety program. Promote safe work practices and a safe environment for guests, members and staff.
  18. Possess excellent customer service skills; for example, friendly, personable, helpful, patient, and professional.
  19. Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.

 

Other Functions / Requirements:

  1. Continue to grow and deliver the EXPLORE and EMPOWER curriculum and schedule of activities.
  2. Be the liaison between the gap year program participants and their assigned working managers as well as the HR department.
  3. Effectively manage any staff housing conflict or incidents that might arise within the gap year participants.
  4. Initiate and conduct gap year program interviews. Assist the Chaplin and Chaplin’s Assistant in the Trek interview process.
  5. Provide constructive feedback and opinion in Trek participant placement.
  6. Coordinate the planning of and logistics for EXPLORE and EMPOWER program activities and excursions including driving and participating in gap year program trips.
  7. Assist in administering needed disciplinary action, support and follow up to gap year program participants.
  8. Assist in day to day HR office duties.

COMPENSATION:

This is a full time, year-round, hourly position paying $15/hour, with full benefits, including:

We have a strict policy for alcohol or drugs on property; in addition, no drug use is tolerated (including marijuana) during your employment with us whether on- or off-duty.

 

REFERENCES:

Two references must be someone who know you professionally (former or current manager, supervisor, teacher, professor, coach, pastor, etc.) and one reference must be a family member.

If you are a rehire and have served at YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center, Snow Mountain Ranch, or Camp Chief Ouray at any time during the past three years, references are not required.

 

ABOUT THE YMCA of the Rockies:

The YMCA of the Rockies operates two year-round family resorts and conference centers on each side of Rocky Mountain National Park: Estes Park Center located in Estes Park, CO; Snow Mountain Ranch located in Winter Park, CO; and Camp Chief Ouray, a summer resident camp for kids located on the Snow Mountain Ranch property.

Snow Mountain Ranch (SMR) is located on the western side of the Rocky Mountain National Park, in a more remote area of Colorado known as the Fraser Valley, near Granby and Winter Park.
