POSITION SUMMARY:  
The Hiking volunteers lead guests, members and YMCA staff on hikes and provides interpretation in and around the YMCA grounds, Rocky Mountain National Park and regional national forests. The Hikemaster also provides customer service and administrative support at the hiking desk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
*     Sign up to lead hikes by the deadline each week
*     Attend and participate in weekly hikemaster staff meetings
*     Know and adhere to hiking policies and procedures set forth by YMCA of the Rockies
*     Answer questions and give guidance and hiking suggestions at hiking desk in Mountain Center
*     Use a computer to assist guests in enrolling for guided hikes and enter data prior to and after hikes  
*     Call hikers prior to hikes to confirm attendance and make logistical arrangements
*     All other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
*     Must have up-to-date certifications in Wilderness First Aid and CPR
*     Must have successfully completed the Hikemaster In Training (HIT) program
*     Must have knowledge of RMNP and surrounding areas
*     Must have a high degree of skill working with people of all ages 
*     Engage in conversation for long periods of time and keep people involved and educated
*     Must be able to hike 5- 20 miles per day in all terrains and weather
*     Must be at least 21 years old
*     Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards
*     Must be able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays

*     Possess excellent customer service skills; for example, friendly, helpful, patient, and professional

*     Promote a cooperative, positive, and flexible atmosphere while working with others in a diverse environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
*     Must be able to squat, stoop and stand for long periods of time
*     Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds

BENEFITS:
As a volunteer there is no compensation. Volunteer perks include:
Room:
*     Volunteers will be assigned rooms with windows and a full bathroom. There are common areas with TVs, refrigerators and microwaves. All rooms have a private telephone and internet access.
*     Geronimo Campground is an alternative available for volunteers at Snow Mountain Ranch in the summer months(mid-May to mid-September). Please inquire for more details.
Board (3 buffet-style meals per day, 7 days per week):
