POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch, which operates a mission-based family and group conference and retreat center serving more than 110,000 guests annually. The Chaplain is primarily responsible for providing spiritual leadership to the guests, volunteers and staff of Snow Mountain Ranch. The Chaplain would need to be self-motivated and work well with ambiguity while providing personal touches inside and outside the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to plan, organize and lead nondenominational and/or Interfaith Christian services and programs for guests and staff.
  • Ability to lead and organize; worship, sermons including music, and program offering(s) across Snow Mountain Ranch, including at Camp Chief Ouray.
  • Recruit, hire, supervise and evaluate Chaplaincy staff and/or volunteers.
  • Offer a positive Christian presence and be a spiritual leader within the YMCA.
  • Work within an approved budget. Propose and develop budgets for operations and capital projects
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Be visible, available and accessible to guests, staff and campers.
  • Understand the value of diversity, equity and inclusion, and provide spiritual care to guests, staff and campers regardless of their dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to: race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
  • Be an active and supportive member of the Snow Mountain Ranch leadership team including; leading devotionals at meetings, engage in program development that includes faith as part of the program, be an active member of the emergency response team, and being involved with staffing and HR as needed.
  • Possess a valid, USA state-issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
  • Possess stamina to work in the environment described herein.
  • Read, write and speak English clearly and concisely.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education, certification/ordination, and years of experience will determine salary offer.
  • Graduate degree in theological or related studies from an accredited educational institution preferred.
    • In lieu of graduate degree, bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or divinity school, plus a minimum equivalent of two years religious leadership experience.
  • Ordained, credentialed, or commissioned according to the practices of a legitimate and recognized religious organization or faith tradition preferred.
    • In lieu of ordained, credentialed, or commissioned, completed Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification and two years’ experience working within a religious setting.
  • Oversee spiritual care to the YMCA community which includes; guests, campers, staff and volunteers.
  • Support weddings, dedications, renewals, and memorials. Conduct baptisms and communion if properly credentialed.
  • Ability to move independently through all YMCA facilities and meeting rooms.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to talk for periods up to two hours
  • Must be able to function in loud and diverse environments
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds to a height of 4 feet
