Nordic Groomer/Grounds Technician
Snow Mountain Ranch – Granby, COSalary Range: $18.00 - $21.30
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch, which operates a mission-based family and group conference, retreat center, and residential camp, serving more than 50,000 guests annually. The Nordic Groomer/Grounds Technician is primarily responsible for assisting the Grounds Supervisors to ensure all grounds and trails are maintained and available year-round to guests and staff. This role includes grooming winter trails, grounds and trails upkeep, snow removal, and fleet maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to safely operate all hand and power tools common to equipment repair and know and use all personal protective equipment necessary to safely do assigned work.
- Possess minimal vehicle maintenance skills in order to keep cat groomer, snowmobiles and light drag equipment in fully functional order
- General knowledge of welding and ability to weld.
- Operation of vehicles and equipment with standard transmission and pull start
- Groom Nordic ski trails, operate snowmobiles, shovel snow, and perform basic equipment maintenance.
- Create and maintain new or existing multi-purpose trails. This will include working with hand and power tools including chainsaws, and heavy equipment in potentially remote areas for long periods of time.
- Will require working early morning, late nights, overnight, holidays, and/or weekends
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Able to work independently and be self-directed.
- Perform and record daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Maintain and service all equipment following manufactures recommendations.
- Able to spend long hours working on and operating equipment.
- A high level of attention to detail and ability to thoroughly complete each job task.
- Must possess a valid, USA state issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
- Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have 3-5 years' experience operating snow cats, four wheelers, side by sides, mini excavators, skid steers, and mowers
- Minimum of two years’ experience operating heavy equipment.
- Excellent knowledge of cross-country skiing, including events and race courses
- Knowledge of Nordic ski equipment.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain.
- A high level of attention to detail and ability to thoroughly complete each job task.
- Willing and able to be on-call at least one night each week if living on-grounds.
- Promote a cooperative, positive and problem-solving atmosphere at all times.
- Communicate with coworkers and supervisor to ensure a quality product and timely completion of products.
- Assist in the Auto Shop as needed to maintain and repair the vehicle fleet and small power equipment.
- Assist the Buildings & Grounds Department as needed to ensure quality services for guests and staff.
- Plan and prioritize projects and work time for efficiency
- Good interpersonal and leadership skills, and teaching/training skills
- Work alongside, train, and supervise seasonal/volunteer B&G staff
- Proven experience with ground maintenance operations in a commercial resort setting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to independently work from ladders and scaffolding, on roofs, in crawl spaces and attics.
- Ability to work while standing all day, with frequent bending and working with arms extended overhead.
- Occasional heavy lifting and ability to carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
