POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch, which operates a mission-based family and group conference, retreat center and residential summer camp, serving more than 50,000 guests annually. The Grounds and Fleet Manager is responsible for the repair, maintenance and safety of the SMR fleet and grounds. The fleet responsibilities include heavy equipment and vehicle use, maintenance, inspections, safety, repairs, acquisitions, and disposal. The grounds responsibilities include roads, trails, common areas, green spaces, forests, and camp grounds. This role supervises the Grounds Supervisor and Auto Shop Mechanic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Train, coach, and discipline staff as necessary
  • Estimate costs of proposed projects for approval by the B&G Director.
  • Order materials to complete projects without downtime and staying within established budget limitations.
  • Oversee fleet of vehicles and equipment including snow plows, grooming equipment, and other heavy equipment
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance equipment and tools are properly serviced and maintained.
  • Work within established deadlines to ensure a quality product and timely completion of projects.
  • Monitor and revise the daily vehicle checkout as needed to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Have good organizational and time management skills and be able to prioritize projects.
  • Ensure safe work practices are being followed with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, vehicle lifts, lifting and carrying of objects, and proper personal protective equipment.
  • Work in temperatures as low as -40 degrees
  • Supervise fleet and grounds teams to ensure property and vehicles meet association standards

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have good organizational and time management skills and be able to prioritize projects.
  • Must have prior maintenance experience and a knowledge of vehicles, heavy equipment, and other equipment
  • Knowledge of safe work practices with hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, vehicle lifts, lifting and carrying of objects, and proper personal protective equipment
  • Small engine repair experience preferred
  • Ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Experience with road plowing and sanding.
  • Trail grooming experience preferred.
  • Possess a valid, USA state-issued driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
  • Must follow written and oral instructions.
  • Computer experience and ability to learn new software required.
  • Must be able to use telephone, two-way radio, and other communication equipment.
  • Greet all customers that enter the Buildings & Grounds office to ensure maximum customer service.
  • Answer all incoming calls and questions, ensuring maximum customer service.
  • Generate work orders between Buildings & Grounds staff, guests, and other departments as necessary.
  • Communicate current and upcoming projects with the Building Maintenance Supervisor and other departments as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Work from ladders, scaffolding, on roofs, and in crawl spaces and attics.
  • Work while standing during shift with frequent bending over and working with arms extended overhead.
  • Physical effort with occasional heavy lifting and carrying of objects up to 100 pounds.
  • Considerable standing, walking, bending, stretching, and working in cramped or awkward positions required. Work with hands at shoulder height and above head.
  • Be able to operate all vehicles in YMCA fleet.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
