Staff Activities Driver - Volunteer, Winter 2018/2019 (Room & Board Included)
Reports To: International Staff & Volunteer Coordinator
SMR organizes many staff trips for employees who are interested in museums, sporting events, shopping etc. This driver is responsible for the safe transport of staff on these trips. Other driving errands may be assigned from time to time. Additionally a driver ensures vehicles assigned to HR are refueled, referred to B & G when needing repair or maintenance and kept in a clean and tidy condition. Drivers need to be over 21 years old with a valid US driving license and acceptable driving record in order to become an approved driver of ‘Y' vehicles. Drivers should also be comfortable driving on mountain passes and in winter conditions. On occasions, when trips are not running, drivers must be prepared to help out with other tasks at the discretion of HR management.
- 4 weeks minimum in this position (Summer only)
- As an On-Grounds Volunteer, there is a minimum service of at least 24 - 28 hours per week depending on the season. Peak Times - 28 Hours per Week - Saturday before Memorial Day through Saturday after Labor Day; Two Saturdays before Christmas through 1st weekend of April. Off-Peak Times - 24 Hours per Week - 1st weekend of April through Saturday before Memorial Day; Saturday after Labor Day through 2 Saturdays before Christmas
- Follow all Snow Mountain Ranch housing policies.
- Demonstrate the ability to fluently read, write and speak English.
- Lift and carry 50 pounds up three flights of stairs at least five times a day.
- Must possess a valid, USA state issued driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and comply with YMCA driving rules to be approved to operate YMCA vehicles.
- Assist in planning and implementing staff activities, including driving staff trips.
- Use chemicals for cleaning staff rooms.
- Possess staff housing pass key and use it only when appropriate, (i.e. lockouts, approved room inspections, room preparation, etc.)
- Inspect rooms for incoming employees to assure that rooms are clean, linens are provided, maintenance needs are taken care of and appropriate furniture is available.
- Check-in residents upon arrival. Review room condition and policies.
- Check-out residents at the time of their departure. Review room condition and complete Check-out Form.
- Attend weekly Resident Assistant meetings.
- Maintain daily communication with the Housing Coordinator or HR Office. Report any problems that you observe or hear about related to staff housing.
- Perform basic maintenance duties within staff rooms and report all other maintenance needs to the B&G department in a timely manner.
- Provide name tags on all staff doors prior to a new employee's arrival.
- Communicate incoming staff names to roommates at least three days in advance (when possible).
- Maintain clean and orderly storage closets.
- Obtain necessary cleaning supplies and equipment from the Housekeeping Department.
- Maintain appropriate supply of linens for incoming staff.
- Assist with tours for new employees.
- Deliver staff mail to on campus mailboxes.
- Paint and shampoo rooms as needed.
- Assist year-round staff with room inspections.
- Move furniture and set up bunk beds using basic tools.
- Perform basic maintenance duties within residence halls.
- All other duties as assigned.

Two uniform shirts or vest will be provided for you. You need to provide/wear your own comfortable, closed-toe shoes and trousers. Sweatpants or yoga type pants will not be permitted.
As a volunteer there is no compensation. Volunteer perks include:
- Pinewood Lodge: A smaller dorm facility that can house up to 75 staff and is attached to our administration building. This is our 40+ housing, primarily serving our volunteer community. Rooms are doubles and can accommodate a couple. Each room has a full bathroom. There is a TV lounge with refrigerator and microwave. All rooms have a private telephone and internet access.
- Geronimo Campground: A campground with 26 sites ranging from 15-50 Amps. All sites have electric hook ups while others have additional water and/or sewer. Geronimo camp sites are open from mid-May to mid-September depending on the weather.
- Board (3 buffet-style meals per day, 7 days per week)
- Discounts, including:
- Access to the YMCA of the Rockies facilities, which include: an indoor pool, basketball gymnasium, fitness classes, hiking/biking/skiing trails, library, and an art center
- Free passes for skiing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and golf (dependent on season and resort)
- Free gear rentals for sports and outdoor activities
- Employee programming, including free or discounted staff trips, provided by the Human Resources Office
- Discounted nights at YMCA of the Rockies lodges (with some date restrictions based on season/occupancy) and various local restaurants
We have a strict policy against alcohol or drugs on property; in addition, no drug use is tolerated (including marijuana) during your employment with us whether on- or off-duty.

Two references must be someone who know you professionally (former or current manager, supervisor, teacher, professor, coach, pastor, etc.) and one reference must be a family member.
If you are a rehire and have served at YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center, Snow Mountain Ranch, or Camp Chief Ouray at any time during the past three years, references are not required.
