Position Summary:
The Environmental Education and Recreation Co-Op is a two-rotation program. The first rotation is within the Environmental Education Department as an Environmental Education Instructor. Under the direction of the Environmental Education Director, Environmental Education Instructors will teach Environmental Education classes, lead team-building activities, perform organization and cleaning tasks, communicate with schools and school leaders, and assist in any projects or tasks that better the Environmental Education Program. The second rotation is within the Program Department as either an Adventure Activities Facilitator, Lifeguard, Day Camp Counselor, Behavior Specialist, Inclusion Counselor, or Family Programs facilitators. The second rotation will be assigned during the hiring process after discussing candidates interest and qualifications.
Environmental Education Rotation: March 31 May 23
Program Rotation: May 24 September 19
Environmental Education Instructor Essential Functions:
- Participate in Environmental Education training.
- Obtain CPR and Wilderness First Aid certifications (provided in training).
- Attend required abuse risk management training and report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Facilitate 3-hour Environmental courses to 1st-8th grade students, following state and national standards.
- Facilitate 2-hour evening hike and campfire programs twice a week.
- Predict, prevent, identify and respond to safety issues.
- Assist in program development and advancement.
- Participate in cleaning and setting up dorms for students between 4-8 hrs. a week
General Program Essential Functions:
- Answer guest questions regarding activities and programs offered at YMCA of the Rockies
- Use computer system to assist guests in signing up for activities, checking out equipment, and checking participant rosters
- Maintain and repair recreation equipment
- Promote and assist in special event weekends and seasonal programming
- Responsible for independently executing programming activities
- Uphold and adhere to the policies of the YMCA of the Rockies and the Program Department.
Environmental Education Instructor Requirements/Qualifications:
- Possess or be working toward an Associates or Bachelors degree in Education, Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, or similar area of study, or have suitable professional experience.
- Experience working with Children is required.
- Must be fluent in speaking English.
- Must possess or be willing to become CPR certification during training.
General Program Requirements/Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Able to work with people of diverse backgrounds including, age, race, gender, faith, and socio-economic level.
- Must possess or be willing to be certified in current Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED.
